San Juan de los Morros is the capital of the State of Guárico in Venezuela, it is practically the gateway to the Central Plains but without actually being a plain. It has a very particular geography where spectacular mountains prevail. Its population is 137 329 inhabitants according to the 2023 census, being the second most populated city in the state of Guárico after Calabozo.
It is one of the main cities of Guárico State, along with Calabozo, Valle de la Pascua and Zaraza. Among the main symbols of the city are the Monument to the Flag, the natural monument Aristides Rojas or Los Morros de San Juan, the Monument to San Juan Bautista, El Platillon hill, the monument to the first Guarico Blessed Mother Candelaria de San Jose, La Villa Olimpica and the thermal baths, which have great tourist importance within the city due to the medicinal properties of its sulfurous waters which is due to the high sulfate content of its waters. Such is its effectiveness and from such remote times, that when Antonio Guzmán Blanco was President of Venezuela, he built the first road to the city, to be able to access this curative source that his family doctor had recommended.
San Juan de los Morros has a climate of 24 to 32 °C and its relief is dominated by mountains, which contrast with the plains of the rest of the state. Among its typical dishes are cachapa, pabellón criollo and arepas.
